Next Steps
1 - Learn about the Vacant Unit Tax
|
The Vacant Unit Tax (VUT) is a tax on residential units which are not a principal residence and are vacant for more than six months. The VUT will encourage homeowners to return units to the housing market and proceeds will be used to support affordable housing initiatives.
The VUT is based on the property status from the year before – meaning if the home is vacant in 2022, the tax will become payable in 2023. |
2 - Prepare Information for Declaration
|
Your MyServiceOttawa account is already registered with your property tax bill. Completing your declaration takes less than 5 minutes using your MyServiceOttawa account. Declarations can also be submitted through Ottawa.ca/VUT using the Roll Number and Access Code found on your property tax bill. Additional information may be required for some occupancy types |
3 – Complete your declaration in January
|
Beginning in January, declarations can be submitted using your property tax account on MyService.Ottawa.ca or by visiting Ottawa.ca/VUT
