I (Councillor Jan Harder) knew you would be excited about this information. We are one step closer to having a second connection to the 416 and we certainly need it! For those of you living south of the Jock River it means an alternate to the current challenges you have heading north (even though you will head south to take advantage of the Barnsdale interchange). Have a look. This process will be completed late this year. Next step once we know the design and environmental conditions is finding the funding. Stay tuned.
The Project
Morrison Hershfield Limited has been retained by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to prepare the Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for the conceptual design of a new interchange around the intersection of Highway 416 and Barnsdale Road in the City of Ottawa.
Currently, an overpass carries traffic east-west along Barnsdale Road, over Highway 416. The intersection’s current configuration does not allow for any entry to, or exit from, Highway 416. The proposed (new) interchange would accommodate traffic movements in all directions by providing entry and exit from both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 416. The interchange is intended to address increased traffic demands and improve operational and safety concerns.
The Process
This project has been classified as a Group B undertaking under the Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) with the opportunity for public input throughout.
Two Public Information Centres are planned at key milestones during the process and advance notification will be provided. A Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) for the Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment for the project will be prepared and made available for a 30-day public comment period. A Notice of Study Completion (TESR Submission) will be published in local newspapers.
